Temporary Contracture

Rarely, not usually (as some might imply), beginning 4-6 weeks post-op and continuing/persisting for 4-6 months, one will see, in an otherwise well repaired lip, the normal processes of scar maturation pull the philtrum upward, making it appear inadequately rotated. This phenomenon is demonstrated in the following series of photos:

One can be assured that if the lip was in proper position at the completion of the surgery, it will be so at the completion of normal scar maturation12.
